Its not illegal to buy Mountain Dew but it is if you’re trying to pay for the soft drink with counterfeit money. William Washington, 48, of North Charleston, SC was arrested by Smithfield Police on February 2nd around 9:45pm.
Officers were dispatched to Sheetz at 1700 E. Market Street after Washington, a customer in the store, allegedly tried to buy two Mountain Dew soft drinks with a counterfeit $50 bill. Police said they located Washington at the scene.
Police said they located a second $50 bill in his possession with the same serial number. Also located and seized was 0.3 grams of suspected marijuana and a smoking pipe.
Washington was charged with felony possession of counterfeit currency, felony attempting to obtain property by false pretense, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. He was held on a $40,000 bond at the Johnston County Jail.
