Investigators have ruled a fire in front of Belk’s at 1231 N. Brightleaf Boulevard in Smithfield as arson. Around 8:15pm Wednesday, Smithfield Police said someone intentionally set fire to a trash can in front of the business. The fire caused about $100 in damage.
Anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area of Belk’s at the time of the fire is asked to contact the Smithfield Police Department at 919-934-2121.
