Suspect Wanted For Stealing Dog During Johnston Co. Animal Shelter Break-In

UPDATE: The dog is okay and has been returned to the the animal shelter.

SMITHFIELD – Detectives with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a break-in this morning (Thursday) at the Johnston County Animal Shelter on Shelter Way in Smithfield.

The suspect was captured on surveillance cameras entering the animal shelter and stealing a black and brown pit bull dog named “Brooklyn”. The dog was later recovered near the intersection of N. Ninth and Hancock Streets in Smithfield after a witness saw the dog being forcibly thrown from a moving vehicle and into the roadway.

The vehicle was described as a black or dark blue Honda sedan, possibly a Honda Accord.
