Suspects Steal Money From Honor System Payment Box

Authorities are searching for two suspects who allegedly stole cash out of an honor system payment box near Benson.  The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating and has released a surveillance photo of one of the suspects.

Deputies said it happened on Nov. 20th around 11:30am in the 1600 block of Denning Road. That’s where the victim had set up an unmanned location to sell deer corn.   The victim had placed a money box for individuals to leave cash for the corn they bought.

Surveillance cameras set up at the location captured at least two suspects stop in a white Ford Explorer Sport Trac.  One suspect was described as a white male with multiple tattoos on both arms, wearing black sunglasses, a yellow sweater, and camo hunting bibs.  The second suspect was wearing a florescent-green hoodie with “Ideal Landscaping Inc.” on the back of the hoodie.  The second suspect used a screwdriver to pry open the money box and take an undisclosed amount of cash.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect in this surveillance camera image is asked to contact the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office at 919-989-5000. Callers may remain anonymous.
