A fire that destroyed a doublewide mobile home Thursday afternoon is being treated as suspicious.
The blaze leveled the home at 677 Williford Road in the Bentonville community in southern Johnston County. The home had already burned to the ground when it was discovered.
The Bentonville Fire Department responded but the home had already been destroyed before they were even dispatched.
Officials said the home was flooded by Hurricane Matthew in 2016 and had been vacant ever since. There was no power connected to the residence. The owner of the property had reported some break-ins at the property in recent months.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and Johnston County Fire Marshal are jointly investigating.
