A driver jumped and ran from an SUV after it crashed Monday morning in Wilson’s Mills.
Around 3:00am, a passing motorist struck a low hanging cable and telephone line across the roadway. After stopping the motorist spotted the heavily damaged wrecked car in the front yard of a nearby home.
Fire, EMS and Wilson’s Mills Police responded to the accident scene but could not locate the driver or any occupants.
Officials said it appears the car was traveling southbound on Fire Department Road when it ran off the roadway, struck a ditch, went airborne and slammed into a Bellsouth telephone pole and Time Warner cable equipment. The phone pole was knocked down as a result of the crash.
Authorities said the engine on the blue Dodge Journey was cold when they arrived on the scene leading them to believe the accident may have occurred hours earlier.
Wilson’s Mills Police are still investigating. Photos by John Payne’
