Johnston County Schools have approved new attendance boundaries for Swift Creek Middle School which is scheduled to open for the first time this August on Norris Road in the Cleveland community.
The boundary lines will have an impact on Cleveland, Clayton, McGee’s and Smithfield Middle Schools by pulling some students from each of the 4 districts. Each of the four schools will likely see a reduction in their current enrollment numbers.
“It will also improve our 1 to 1 to 1 ratio as students move from elementary school, to middle school, to high school,” stated Area Superintendent Dr. Rodney Peterson.
Last month, the Johnston County School Board named Kerri Evans the new principal at Swift Creek Middle. Evans is the current principal at Riverwood Middle. She will assume her new role on March 13th. Bruce Bunn has been named the interim principal at Riverwood Middle beginning March 13th.
Swift Creek Middle is the last major construction project funded from the 2013 bond referendum approved by voters. Groundbreaking on the school facility was held in October 2016.
