Teacher Hurt Breaking Up Fight At SSS; Six Students Face Charges

SMITHFIELD, N.C. – Six Smithfield-Selma High School students are expected to face juvenile charges following two separate fights at the school this week, including one that left a teacher injured.

The most recent incident happened Sept. 23 when a school employee saw two students fighting in a hallway and attempted to break up the altercation.

The teacher suffered a shoulder injury while intervening.

The employee declined EMS treatment at the school but told police they planned to seek treatment from their doctor.

Both students involved in the hallway fight are expected to face juvenile petitions.

A day earlier, on Sept. 22, four other Smithfield-Selma High students were involved in a separate fight inside a school bathroom.

No injuries were reported in that incident.

All four students are expected to face juvenile petitions.

Johnston County Public Schools can also take disciplinary action under school system policies.
