An elderly Smithfield couple is the victim of a thief.
Between Monday, Jan. 29th and Friday, Feb. 2nd someone entered the couple’s home near Downtown Smithfield and removed jewelry items valued at $26,650.
Smithfield Police said the couple, in their late 70’s, discovered the items missing on Saturday and contacted officers.
Police Captain R. Sheppard said there were several people who had access to the home during the time period the theft occurred. Police are in the process of speaking with those individuals this week.
The couple was at home when the theft occurred. The missing jewelry has not been located.
