Three Johnston County School Board Members Win Reelection Without Opposition

SMITHFIELD – Three incumbent Johnston County Board of Education members won reelection Tuesday, securing another four years in office without opposition on the general election ballot.

Republicans Michelle Antoine, Terry Tippett and Kevin Donovan were each elected to another term on the seven-member school board.

Antoine, who represents District 1, received 52,439 votes. Tippett, the District 2 representative, received 53,275 votes, while Donovan, representing District 5, collected 52,964 votes.

All three were first elected to the school board in 2022.

Antoine and Donovan did not face challengers in either the March Republican primary or Tuesday’s general election.

Tippett faced opposition in the March primary from Jeremy Jenkins of Middlesex. Tippett won the Republican nomination with approximately 73 percent of the vote, compared to 27 percent for Jenkins.

Donovan currently serves as vice chairman of the Board of Education.

The election results mean the three incumbents will continue serving alongside board members Lyn Andrews, Kay Carroll, April Lee and Jeff Sullivan, whose terms expire in 2028.

All precincts reported results Tuesday night. The totals remain unofficial until certified by the Johnston County Board of Elections.
