The Smithfield Town Council awarded a number of bids for maintenance equipment, power meters, and a bucket truck at their August monthly meeting.
The council approved a $12,157.92 bid for a new 2018 Scag commercial zero turn mower from W. Landis Bullock of Smithfield. The Public Works Department had budgeted $13,000 in the current fiscal year for the purchase.
A $29,051 bid was awarded to Deacon Jones Ford for the purchase of a 2019 Ford F-250 regular cab pickup with a service body. The Public Utilities Department had budgeted $50,000 for the purchase in the 2018-19 budget.
A $203,923 bid was awarded to Terex for bucket truck for the Electric Department. The truck will take about 11 months to manufacture. It will replace an 18 year-old bucket truck that is in need of constant maintenance.
1,000 new AMI automated electric meters will be purchased from Nexgrid at a price of $166,187.90.
