The Town of Clayton has named Greg Tart as acting chief of police.
A lifelong resident of Clayton, Tart has had a distinguished career in North Carolina law enforcement. He is the former deputy director of the State Bureau of Investigation, where he led a force of more than 600 sworn and nonsworn employees.
Tart has been involved in some of the most high profile cases in North Carolina and Johnston County during his 30-year career.
“Greg Tart is an accomplished law enforcement professional and a Clayton native,” said Interim Town Manager JD Solomon. “We are pleased and excited about the leadership, experience and community knowledge that he brings to our team.”
On Monday, the current police chief Blair Myhand was placed on paid administrative leave. Town officials declined to comment on the administrative action. Myhand was hired in 2017 as the Clayton police chief.
