The Town of Smithfield has awarded a bid for six new patrol cars for the Police Department. Deacon Jones of Smithfield was the lower bidder at $132,990 for the new 2019 Dodge Chargers.
Three of the vehicles will be assigned to detectives. Three will be assigned to the patrol division.
Money for the purchase was already in the current fiscal year budget.
Performance Automotive submitted a bid of $133,391 and Bleecker $138,343.
In a separate bid, the Public Works Department was given approval to purchase a new 2019 Ford F-250 pickup from Asheville Ford for $28,612.81. They were the low bidder for the truck. The department had budgeted $30,000 for the truck purchase this year. Deacon Jones had bid $29,381 and Capital Ford $30,362. Two other area Ford dealers were solicited but did not submit a bid.
