A residential street in West Smithfield is being used by semi-trucks. The Smithfield Town Council has taken action to try and eliminate the problem.
Large trucks have been using Powell Street as a cut through from Computer Drive to Wilson’s Mills Road. Police said some of the tractor trailers have torn down cable lines. Two houses were damaged when the cable lines were pulled down by the trucks traveling through the residential neighborhood.
The Town has agreed to install “No Through Truck” signs on Powell Street. Once the signs are received, they will be placed on both ends of Powell Street.
