KENLY – A fire just before midnight Tuesday heavily damaged the Iowa 80 Truck Wash just off Interstate 95. The South Carolina based driver said he had just started his truck and within moments saw flames under the hood.
The fire destroyed the tractor, spared the trailer and heavily damaged the mechanized truck wash. The truck was transporting canned beans from South Carolina to Richmond, Virginia.
The Kenly, Micro, Bethany and Selma fire departments responded and extinguished the flames. Johnston County EMS, Kenly Police and the Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office also responded.
The Fire Marshal’s Office and Johnston County Building Inspections Office returned to the scene Wednesday. At last report, the cause of the fire had not been determined.
No injuries were reported.
