JOHNSTON COUNTY – A driver towing a loaded utility trailer ran out of gas on westbound I-40 in a Johnston County work zone at around mile marker 313, Saturday night. Unfortunately, he had no lights on his trailer and the lights on his truck were completely blocked by his cargo.
The State Highway Patrol had been notified of the disabled vehicle and a trooper was rushing to help him – but it was to be too late.
A westbound tractor trailer carrying large containers full of bacon from Florida to Wisconsin, tried to avoid hitting the darkened truck and trailer, but it was too late.
Interstate 40 was shut down intermittently over the next 2 hours. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Not smart enough to hook up the trailer lights and not smart enough to keep an eye on the gas gauge.
