SAFE Team deputies said they seized approximately one pound of marijuana, an undisclosed amount of cash, and impounded a car following a traffic stop in the 13000 block of Covered Bridge Road in northern Johnston County.

Around 3:40pm Thursday, SAFE Team deputies with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office were on routine patrol and spotted a suspicious 2005 Chevy Malibu.  Officers stopped the car and identified the driver as 44 year-old Daryl Lamar Jones of S. Wakefield Street in Zebulon.

Officers said they detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside the car.  During a search, a grocery bag was found under the seat containing an undisclosed amount of cash.  Inside the trunk, approximately one pound of marijuana was located in a sealed bag.

Jones was charged with felony possession with intent to manufacture sell or deliver marijuana and felony possession of marijuana. Jones was held on a $25,000 secure bond.

The Chevy Malibu he was operating was impounded.
