SMITHFIELD – A family heading northbound on I-95 to their Virginia Beach home from Florida were involved in a traffic accident this afternoon in Johnston County.
The driver of the SUV claimed that a tractor trailer caused them to lose control and the trailer overturn just south of the Brogden Road exit in Smithfield, destroying both their car and travel trailer, blocking both northbound lanes and causing a 5-mile traffic backup.
Amazingly, there were no injuries among the three adults and three dogs in the SUV. The driver said, “I just wish that truck that hit us had stopped.”
The Smithfield Fire Department, three Johnston County EMS units, the NC DOT and State Highway Patrol responded to the accident.
