The Highway Patrol says speed played a contributing factor in a fatal weekend car crash. The single vehicle crash occurred around 1:10am on Pearce Road near Nicklaus Drive not far from the Johnston-Wake County line.
Troopers said 28 year-old Christopher Robert Tracy of Willow Spring was traveling in a BMW westbound on Pearce Road, when he traveled off the left side of the roadway, striking a driveway culvert. The car then became airborne and struck a small tree, two brick walls on private property, and overturned on its roof.
Tracy died at the scene. The Highway Patrol said the victim was not wearing a seat belt. Speed also playing a factor.
