Troopers Identify Woman Killed In Crash

One person has died from injuries sustained in a two vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in eastern Johnston County.

The accident was reported at 1:44pm at the intersection of Brogden Road and Baker’s Chapel Road about 7 miles east of Smithfield.

According to the NC Highway Patrol, Anthony Garland Evans was operating a light blue Toyota passenger car on Brogden Road and was attempting to make a left turn onto Baker’s Chapel Road, but pulled into the path of a white Chevy SUV driven by Mary Elizabeth Pippin.

A passenger in the Toyota, Kimberlee Nichole Lee, was pinned in the wreckage and had to be extricated by the Brogden Fire Department.  Lee was rushed to Wake Medical Center with critical injuries. She died Wednesday afternoon in the hospital as a result of her injuries.

Both Evans and Pippin were transported to the hospital for injuries.

Charges in the crash are pending.
