KENLY – An out-of-state motorist was killed and a passenger in their car seriously injured after being struck by a wrong-way driver. The fatal collision was reported Saturday, May 21 at 2:46am on Interstate 95 at the 108 mile marker near the Johnston-Wilson County line.
Fernando Lynch, age 32, of Spring Lake, NC was traveling the wrong way on the interstate in a 2016 Kia passenger car when he reportedly slammed head-on into a 2014 Toyota passenger car operated by Makayla Roche, age 25, of Jacksonville, Florida. Ms. Roche died as the scene. A passenger in the Toyota, Kayla Agins, age 25, of Florida was seriously injured.
The State Highway Patrol has charged Lynch with felony death by motor vehicle, driving while impaired, and driving on a revoked license, among other traffic offenses.
Fernando Lynch was held under a $1 million bond at the Johnston County Jail.
