Selma Police have released the names of two people arrested during a Christmas Eve affray inside Denny’s on JR Road.
A Selma police officer on meal break inside the restaurant around 3:10am Saturday when the officer observed a waitress being assaulted. Police said Tanisha Mashay McKey, 22, of Finney Drive, Smithfield and Shardunay Duquel Grant, 24, of Whittington Street, Benson were both arrested for simple assault.
Security video reportedly captured the waitress ask two people who were arguing to calm down. Grant allegedly grabbed a sugar caddie and struck the waitress in the face causing a deep laceration to the victims forehead.
McKey then allegedly began striking the 40 year-old employee.
A large number of officers from the Selma Police Department, Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and NC Highway Patrol responded to Denny’s to bring the disturbance under control.
Both McKey and Grant were released from jail on a $1,500 bond pending a January 31st court appearance.
