Two Arrested In Smithfield Counterfeit Money Case

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Two people were arrested following an investigation into counterfeit money allegedly used in an attempted purchase at a local flea market. The incident occurred April 5.

According to the Smithfield Police Department, officers seized 14 counterfeit $100 bills identified as motion picture prop money, along with counterfeit identification cards.

During the arrests, officers said they located approximately 2.3 grams of suspected methamphetamine.

Isaias Gonzalez Dominguez, 48, and Adan Rios Benitez, 36, both of Snow Hill, were each charged with possession of counterfeit instruments, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Dominguez was additionally charged with identity theft.
