Two Charged After Stolen Pickup Allegedly Taken to Salvage Yard

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A months-long investigation into the theft of a pickup truck has resulted in felony charges against two Johnston County residents.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said a black 1997 Ford F-150 was reported stolen from a residence on Braswell Road in mid-February. Detectives later identified two suspects they believe were involved in the theft and subsequent possession of the vehicle.

Authorities have charged Randy Lynn Hill, 30, of Melvin Court, Smithfield, and Samantha Kay Pate, 33, of Parkertown Road, Four Oaks with three felony offenses each: larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and conspiracy.

According to sheriff’s investigators, Hill and Pate allegedly stole the pickup truck and later attempted to sell it to a salvage yard in Goldsboro.

Additional charges have not been ruled out.

  1. You can be anything in life do not choose to be a thief. You can’t trust a thief. You were not always like this. You chose to date every female that looked your way. Especially if they had a drug problem. That is your family by the way. I hope you find the recovery that you have seen. Look at the people that made it through. People are so much happier when they get out of addiction. Don’t let Pride tell you that you can’t learn from your sentence. Just because the government reprimanded you does not mean that you are weak for changing when they do. Only a fool doesn’t accept correction/conviction. I wouldn’t want to date my family just because the people before me did.

  2. Guy needs to stay in jail for a while this time.

Clearly “catch and release” is not helping him. 2-5 yrs might
