Law enforcement officers from two counties pursued a suspect who reportedly failed to pull over for a traffic stop.
Shortly before 3:00am Tuesday, Goldsboro Police were investigating an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle call. Police were told that Fuquan Banks took a vehicle without the owner’s permission. Banks had outstanding warrants for his arrest and had reportedly cut off his ankle monitoring device.
As officers were investigating the unauthorized use complaint, they spotted the vehicle in motion, and the driver failed to stop for a stop sign. Goldsboro police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Banks fled from officers.
The chase continued from Wayne County into Johnston County, at times reaching speeds around 100 mph. While traveling on US 70 near Smithfield, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office successfully deployed stop sticks, deflating three of the four tires on the speeding SUV. However, Banks refused to stop and turned from US 70 onto Buffalo Road near Selma.
Banks pulled over and stopped in the edge of a ditch where the SUV became stuck. After several minutes of sitting inside the vehicle, Banks was eventually detained without further incident.
Banks, age 28, was charged with speeding to elude arrest, speeding, stop sign violation, reckless driving, and driving without a license. He was served with several outstanding failure to appear in court warrants including driving while impaired, discharging a firearm in the city, fictitious information to an officer, and failure to wear a seat belt.
Buffalo Road was closed to traffic, including a number of fuel tankers, for about 45 minutes.
Several outstanding failure to appear in court warrants including driving while impaired and discharging a firearm in the city, would be enough for me to deny bail if I were running things. He is a danger to society and continues to act that way. Why do we let him be free? We need to be tougher on crime.
Tougher on crime = jail time= more jails needed..
So what’s your solution just let them all run around our streets committing crimes?
Great job JCSO. I agree with Carl, this guy needs to be put away once and for all. When you get up to 100 MPH he could have killed someone. He sounds like a PO# to me. Again great job JCSO and thanks for making our streets a little safer.
