A two county high speed chase on a stolen SUV came to an end in Johnston County early Saturday morning.
A Sampson County state trooper attempted to stop the SUV for speeding 90mph in a 70mph zone on Interstate 40. The driver failed to pull over and at times reached speeds of 100mph.
While traveling on I-40 near McGee’s Crossroads a trooper executed a PIT maneuver forcing the vehicle into the median guardrail. Four people in the SUV were detained and transported to Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn to be checked out for any injuries.
During the pursuit the occupants in the vehicle were allegedly throwing objects onto the roadway, including folding lawn chairs, to impede troopers from catching the suspects.
A Clayton Police K9 responded to the scene to assist in a search of the vehicle. Photos by John Payne
