Two Injured After Utility Trailer Detaches From Vehicle, Strikes Minivan

BENSON – Two people were injured after a utility trailer being towed behind a truck detached and collided with a minivan. The 8:06pm Wednesday crash occurred on Sanders Road off Highway 50 North of Benson.

According to the State Highway Patrol, Colby Dwight Adams, 35, of Benson was traveling southbound on Sanders Road operating a 2013 Peterbilt owned by Ivey’s Towing & Transport of Garner. A utility trailer behind the Peterbilt detached and crossed the centerline into the opposite travel lane collided with a northbound 2015 Chrysler minivan driven by Jessica Lynn Sluik, 36, of Benson.

Sluik and a 12 year-old passenger were injured and transported to WakeMed. Adams was not injured.

Trooper M. Corral cited Adams for improper towing.
