Two Injured In Collision At Four-Way Stop Intersection

SELMA — A two-vehicle collision at the four-way stop on NC 42 East and Thanksgiving Fire Road sent both drivers to the hospital Thursday.

A passenger car collided with a pickup truck in the intersection, striking the truck’s rear wheel with enough force to shear it off and spin the truck into a ditch. The car then left the roadway, knocking down a stop sign before crashing into a small embankment.

Both drivers were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation replaced the damaged stop sign shortly after the crash. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigated the collision.

  1. Oh Great, now the dumb a**es at the DOT will put in another rotary for 4 million dollars. It won’t be big enough for a 4 lane highway, which highway 42 will be in another 10 years or less. Thus they will rip that out and spend $10 million to fix

  2. How long before they put a round-da-circle at this intersection? Seems like every intersection on 42 is going to be a round-da-circle. SMH

    • I leave closer to that intersection and if building a round-da-circle as you called is what it takes to make that intersection safe, I’m ok with that. Not too long ago a young woman with her baby on the backseat of her car lost their life there and they have been for very long time horrible accidents happening there, that’s why dot installed the 4 way stop, to try to mitigate the accidents but they still happening

  3. Nobody yields at a 2-way stop, so we make it a 4-way and stop all the traffic that had the right-of-way. Did nothing but waste more time and fuel. Someone rolling along distracted and didn’t see the stop sign or the cross traffic. A roundabout won’t help, either. This Has Got to Stop.

  4. Based on the grammar in these comments, I’m starting to understand why no one knows what stop means.

  5. If you think this intersection is rough, go on up and around the curve to Thanksgiving and Jordan Narron. That’s got to be on the county’s worst intersections list. Awful curve, too fast, and road crews that park just in the curve so you can’t see what’s coming. The poor family on the corner, and their horses, have to be tired of fixing that fence.
