Two Injured In Smithfield Shooting

SMITHFIELD – Police are investigating a shooting that sent two people to the hospital. It happened on Fieldale Drive, off N. Brightleaf Boulevard, just before 5:30pm today (Friday).

Police Chief Pete Hedrick said the double shooting appears to be an “accidental discharge” of a firearm that was just purchased today and was being unloaded when the weapon discharged.

The two victims were transported to WakeMed.

Police are continuing their investigation.
