The drivers of two vehicles were injured in a collision on US 70 at Swift Creek Road just west of Smithfield at 4:20pm on Wednesday.
The NC Highway Patrol said a 2016 Hyundai passenger car being driven by Margaret Marie Arlotta, 46, of Clayton was traveling northbound on Swift Creek Road. Troopers said Arlotta failed to stop for a red light at the intersection and collided with a 1988 Dodge SUV traveling eastbound on US 70 and operated by Sonia Vargas Hernandez, 39, of Clayton.
Both drivers sustained non-life threatening injuries. Arlotta was transported to Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield for medical care. Hernandez was treated at the scene but declined transport to the hospital. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
Arlotta was cited by Trooper D.K. Douglas with failure to stop for a red light.
Johnston County EMS and the Wilson’s Mills Fire Department responded to the scene.
