FOUR OAKS – Two drivers were injured when three pickup trucks collided Saturday at 2:05pm on US Highway 701 South at Strickland’s Crossroads Road.
According to the State Highway Patrol, a white 1999 Ford pickup driven by James Carl Massey, age 76, of Four Oaks was traveling east on Strickland’s Crossroads Road attempting to cross through the intersection. Massey pulled from a stop sign into the path of a burgundy 2000 Ford pickup traveling northbound on US 701, driven by J. Guadalupe Montoya-Martinez, age 48, of Four Oaks.
After the impact, Massey’s truck came to rest in a ditch. Montoya-Martinez’s truck was pushed into a westbound red 2022 Ford truck that had stopped for the stop sign, operated by Herman Douglas Batten, age 60, of Four Oaks.
Massey was transported to Wake Med with serious injuries. Montoya-Martinez sustained minor injuries and evaluated by EMS at the scene but was not transported. Batten was not injured.
Trooper B.S. Johnson cited Mr. Massey with a seat belt violation and failure to yield.
