Two Kilos Of Cocaine Seized During Interstate 95 Traffic Stop

SMITHFIELD – A Smithfield man was arrested after deputies seized two kilograms of cocaine during a traffic stop on Interstate 95, following a tip about possible drug activity.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office arrested Nicholas Delgadoa, 47, of Old Sanders Road, on August 13 after initiating a traffic stop.

Authorities said they received a complaint related to suspected drug activity at a residence on Old Sanders Road. Investigators determined Delgadoa was living at the address and discovered he had active arrest warrants out of Wilson County.

As an officer arrived in the area to investigate, Delgadoa was reportedly seen leaving the residence in a vehicle. Deputies conducted a traffic stop shortly afterward on I-95.

During the stop, a K-9 unit was deployed and reportedly alerted to the presence of narcotics. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of two kilograms of cocaine inside a bag on the back seat, concealed beneath a coat.

Following the stop, deputies executed a search warrant at the Old Sanders Road residence, where they found a small quantity of cocaine.

Delgadoa has been charged with three felony counts of trafficking cocaine and one count of maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance. He was cited for driving with a revoked license.

He is being held at the Johnston County Detention Center under a $400,500 secured bond.
