Two Men Charged In Fire That Destroyed Mobile Home

JOHNSTON COUNTY – A joint investigation by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office has resulted in the arrest of two suspects on arson charges.

On October 4, 2023, just after 11:00am, flames destroyed a singlewide mobile home at 112 Bruce’s Lane, Dunn, off NC Highway 96 South near the Sampson County line.

Meadow, Newton Grove, Plain View, and Dunn Fire Departments responded, along with Johnston County EMS.

The home was in the process of being remodeled, but was vacant when the fire was reported.

Investigators said they determined gasoline was used as an accelerate.

After speaking with witnesses and reviewing nearby video surveillance cameras two suspects were identified.

On Dec. 4, Jonathan Alvarez, age 19, of the 3400 block of Rains Crossroads Road, Princeton was arrested. On Dec. 6, Isidoro Flores Molina, age 42, of the 1100 block of Benson-Hardee Road, Benson was arrested. Both men were charged with felony burning a building and felony conspiracy. They were held under $50,000 secured bonds at the Johnston County Detention Center.

Damage to the home and contents was estimated at $40,000.

A motive was not disclosed.
