Two people inside a compact car were seriously injured following a three vehicle crash Monday afternoon that also involved a Johnston County school bus. The wreck happened on Castleberry Road just inside the Archer Lodge city limits.
According to a witness, the small passenger car had just passed a moped at a high rate of speed when it clipped the rear of a moving school bus, causing the car to spin out of control and into the path of an oncoming Ford pickup truck.
Both occupants in the car were found unconscious and pinned inside the vehicle. They were extricated by crews from the Archer Lodge Fire Department before being rushed to the hospital by Johnston County EMS crews.
The driver of the pickup truck refused treatment. The driver of the school bus was not injured. There were no students on the Bus 199 at the time.
The NC Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident and has not released the names of those involved. Photos by John Payne
