Two Shoplifting Incidents Are Connected, Police Say

SMITHFIELD – Police are investigating shoplifting incidents at two retail stores they say are connected.

The first theft was reported around 7:45pm Friday, June 2nd at Pro Image, located on Outlet Center Drive. An unknown white male and white female entered the business and stole 8 hats valued at $603.03. They fled in the rear of a white pickup truck.

About an hour later, police were dispatched to Hibbett’s Sports on N. Brightleaf Boulevard. The same two suspects entered the business. The male distracted the clerk while the female grabbed four Michael Jordan UNC jerseys from a display rack and ran out the door. They jumped in the back of the same truck and fled the area. The jerseys were valued at $480.

Police described the white male as tall and slender with facial hair, wearing a white hat, black t-shirt and gray sweatpants. The white female was described as heavy set with brown hair in a messy bun, wearing a black tank top, grey leggings, and white Nike shoes.

Smithfield Police said both incidents remain under investigation.
