Nine people were injured after two vehicles collided Saturday afternoon on Buffalo Road at River Dell Run about two miles north of Wilson’s Mills. Seven of the 9 were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
The NC Highway Patrol said Mary Emma Macias, 30, of Micro was traveling northbound on Buffalo Road and had stopped for a car ahead of her attempting to make a left turn onto River Dell Run when her 2007 Dodge van was rear-ended by a 2018 Dodge SUV operated by Heather Tonnette Branch, 31, of Wendell.
All 6 occupants in the van and three people in the SUV were injured. Seven of the injured were transported to Johnston Medical Center in Clayton and WakeMed in Raleigh. Two others were treated at the scene. None of the injuries were considered life threatening.
An accident report indicated Branch was traveling at 50mph in a 55mph zone at the time she struck the rear of Macias’ van, which was at a complete stop.
Branch was cited by Trooper C.E. Summerlin with failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision.
