MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive (UMO) welcomed students to Southern Bank Auditorium on Thursday night for a special screening of The Blind, depicting the life of Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson. This unforgettable event, hosted by UMO, was made possible through the generous support of Hwy 55 CEO Kenny Moore and his wife, Karen. The Moores were deeply passionate about sharing the film’s message with the UMO community.
The Blind is a stunning cinematic journey that chronicles Phil Robertson’s life before he became a reality TV star on Duck Dynasty. Set in the backwoods swamps of 1960s Louisiana, the film shares never-before-revealed moments in Phil’s life as he seeks to conquer the shame of his past, ultimately finding redemption in an unlikely place. This compelling story explores the love story that launched a dynasty, the turmoil that nearly brought it crashing down, and the hope that rose from the ashes to create a foundation for generations to come, as described on Rotten Tomatoes.
Kenny Moore shared his personal connection to the film and its impact on his life. “I was baptized by Phil Robertson at his property when I recommitted my life to Christ on March 15th, I wanted to bring this movie to the University of Mount Olive students because of the impact Phil’s life made on mine,” he stated.
Following the screening, UMO Campus Pastor Matt Sharp and Hwy 55 Chaplain Joey Lancaster held a response time for students, where 11 students gave their lives to Christ. After that, 30 outdoor baptisms took place, and students worshipped nearly until midnight. Pastor Matt, deeply moved by the experience, expressed, “I’m speechless about what took place last night. I’m so excited this morning that if you see me jumping for joy on campus today, you will know why! I’m here to say God is up to something at UMO!”
The event, which showcased the resilience, faith, and transformative power of Phil Robertson’s story, left a lasting impression on all those in attendance. UMO continues to foster an environment that encourages personal growth, spirituality, and a sense of community among its students.
