Universal Chevrolet Expands To Second Location

Better Serving Growing Eastern Wake , Johnston and Franklin Counties

ZEBULON – On Dec. 3, Universal Chevrolet publicly announced the acquisition of a second dealership location in Zebulon, situated only four miles from its original store in Wendell. The expansion is a direct response to the significant growth observed in Eastern Wake County, Johnston County and Franklin County, an area where a substantial portion of the dealership’s customer base resides.

The new dealership, located at 606 West Gannon Ave, will operate as Universal Chevrolet of Zebulon and aims to provide another location where local residents can see some of the same trusted faces from their original location. Prior to the acquisition, J & M Chevrolet was one of the most recognized names of this location.

The Zebulon and Wendell Chamber of Commerce officially welcomed the dealership with a grand opening celebration on Dec. 3 that brought close to 300 local residents, businesses, and elected officials.

Service Director Lewis Denton has been taking care of customers vehicles for nearly 30 years. He was a well known face to Zebulon for 28 years and joined the Universal Family in 2024. Now with the second location, he’s back and will oversee both the Wendell and Zebulon Universal Service Departments.

Universal Chevrolet has been in business since 1932 and originally was part of the J & M Auto group in the 1920’s. J & M had four locations: Smithfield, Clayton, Wendell and Zebulon. In 1932 Willard White took the Clayton and Wendell locations. The Zebulon location remained under different ownership. Zebulon Chamber of Commerce President , John Saffold referred to the acquisition as a Homecoming.

Travis White, third generation co-owner will oversee the Zebulon Location with the help of his general manager Gary Briddle, while his cousin Vince White manages the Wendell location.

When the opportunity presented itself to acquire this second store, “we jumped on it and we are thrilled to be a part of this growing community!” said Travis White. With the help of his team, Travis looks forward to bringing back the quality of service that customers expect and deserve. The Chevrolet Dealership in Wendell and Zebulon are only 3.8 miles apart and are probably the closest two dealerships to each other in the state.

The dealership has long been known for its deep commitment to the community, actively participating in local events that foster direct interaction with customers. Public Relations Manager Carlie Rye is no stranger to crowds, she actively represents Universal Chevrolet throughout Johnston and Wake County and has already been working on a strategy on how they can use their skills and resources to make a positive impact in Zebulon.

Customers are invited to stop by the new location, explore the latest Chevrolet lineup—including models featuring popular amenities like heated seats and heated steering wheels in this cold weather—and meet the dedicated team.
