Unlicensed Driver Cited In Collision That Injures 3

Three people were sent to the hospital Thursday night after a car and an SUV collided on Highway 301 in Smithfield.

Smithfield Police said the accident was reported at 7:51pm at the intersection of US 301 (Brightleaf Boulevard) and Booker Dairy Road.

According to an accident report, a 2014 Mazda driven by Sandra Bell of US 70 Business West, Clayton was traveling eastbound on Booker Dairy Road while a 1999 Dodge SUV driven by Alba Ramona Figuereo of Hancock Street, Smithfield was traveling northbound on US 301.

Police said Figuereo failed to stop for a red light at the intersection and collided with Bell’s SUV.

As a result of the collision, both drivers along with one passenger in the Mazda were taken by ambulance to Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield for treatment.

Figuereo was cited by Smithfield Police for a stop sign violation and driving without a license.  Damage to the Dodge was estimated at $2,000 and damage to the Mazda was placed at $2,000.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
