Vandalism Blamed For Untreated Wastewater Discharge

GARNER – Johnston County officials have reported a discharge of untreated wastewater that occurred between September 3 and 4 near 13383 Cleveland Road, Garner, in western Johnston County.

According to a press release, approximately 7,200 gallons of untreated wastewater entered an unnamed tributary connected to a drained pond on private property.

County staff discovered that the discharge was the result of vandalism. Debris and miscellaneous items had been intentionally placed into a public sewer main, leading to a blockage and subsequent overflow.

The North Carolina Division of Water Resources was notified of the incident and is currently reviewing the matter.
