CLAYTON – A 34 year-old Clayton man is facing numerous charges after he reportedly led Johnston County deputies on a brief high speed pursuit. Around 12:56am Thursday, Feb. 8, a deputy sheriff attempted to stop a Nissan SUV on NC 42 West for a traffic violation.
The driver failed to stop, leading officers on a vehicle chase that ended on Government Road near David Lane.
While attempting to place the driver in handcuffs, he allegedly resisted arrest, turned towards the officer and pushed him, and tried to flee on foot. Following a struggle the driver was eventually subdued.
A search of the SUV revealed a handgun reported stolen in Raleigh, authorities said.
Roderick Earl Emory Jr., of Glen Echo Road, was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, speeding, resisting a public officer, assault on a government official, driving while impaired, driving on a revoked license, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, and probation violation.
Emory was held under a $100,733 secured bond at the Johnston County Detention Center. The Nissan SUV was seized.
