Victim Burned In Suspicious Fire

One person was airlifted to the UNC Burn Center in Chapel Hill after being burned in a fire Tuesday afternoon.

It happened shortly after 2:00pm at 45 Green Bramble Court in the Swift Creek Hills subdivision off Short Journey Road.

A neighbor called 911 after hearing a loud boom and discovered a building behind a doublewide mobile home was on fire.  Firefighters found one person at the scene suffering burns from the fire. The victim was rushed by ambulance to the Johnston County Airport then airlifted to the UNC Burn Center.

The Wilson’s Mills, Smithfield and Cleveland Fire Departments responded to the scene. The Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office and Johnston County Sheriff’s Office also responded. The name of the person who was injured and their condition was not immediately released. Officials are still investigating what started the fire, however Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell said the blaze is being treated as suspicious.
