BENSON – The State Highway Patrol and Johnston County Medical Examiner’s Office have identified two people who were killed June 4th in a fiery single vehicle accident on Highway 50 just north of McGee’s Crossroads. The 1:11am collision occurred not far from the intersection of Highway 50 and Church Road.
The driver was identified as 23 year-old Daniel Scott Alford of Benson. The passenger was identified as 23 year-old Victoria Lynn Cabrera of Martinsville, Virginia. Both were identified by dental records.
Troopers said Daniel Alford was speeding south on Highway 50 North when the 2002 Chevrolet 2500 pickup ran off the roadway and collided with an uprooted tree. The impact was so severe the truck was nearly split in half.
Immediately after impact the truck burst into flames. The medical examiner determined both victims succumbed to their injuries prior to the fire.
