KENLY – A second person has been charged in a sexual assault investigation in Johnston County.
Tyler Timothy Gregory, age 26, of Scottsville, Virginia was formerly charged on January 9, 2025 with first degree statutory sex offense, first degree sexual exploitation of a minor, and second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
His arrest followed the execution of a search warrant in Virginia, involving Virginia authorities, the NC SBI, and Johnston County Sheriff’s Office. During the search warrant electronic devices were reportedly seized.

The charges against Gregory stem from the November 6, 2024 arrest of Crystal Darlene Benson of Glendale Road, Kenly. The 32 year-old woman contacted the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and allegedly self-reported live-streaming a sex act over the internet with a juvenile victim.
Benson was employed as a daycare worker, however the victim and alleged criminal act had no connection to the daycare.
Gregory was held under a $1 million bond at the Johnston County Detention Center. Benson remains in custody under a $350,000 secured bond.
