The Town of Benson held its 7th annual Keep Benson Beautiful clean-up event on Saturday. A total of 107 volunteers, town employees and elected officials worked to beautify Benson, completing a total of 321 hours of work.
The reoccurring theme for the weekend was, “I Love Benson.” Completed activities included trash collection along miles of local roadways, painting of Mitchell Nance Park concession stand, playground mulching at Dr. PK Vyas MD Park, community garden restoration the Lee Street Complex, and an array of repairs at the Hurricane damaged Highway 301 Trailer Park.
Volunteers assembled in the former Benson Elementary Gymnasium off Lee and Elm Streets. Volunteers were fed breakfast courtesy of McDonald’s of Benson, Food Lion and Carlie C’s IGA. Teams of workers, wearing orange NC DOT safety vests, then spread out across town.
“We had such a strong turnout this weekend and the weather was simply perfect,” stated Matt Zapp, Town Manager. “We believe that Benson is the Best Small Town in North Carolina! And our community showed up and proved it to be fact.”
Keep Benson Beautiful was capped with a volunteer lunch and door prize giveaway. Workers were treated to Domino’s Pizza, donated Pepsi products and desserts from an array of local establishments including JP’s Pastry, Food Lion and Jenny’s Sweet Creations. Volunteers also received an array of door prizes from local merchants.
