Wake County Man Charged After Deputies Find Teen In Parked Car

SMITHFIELD — What began as a report of a suspicious vehicle near Smithfield ended with the arrest of a Raleigh man on a serious felony charge.

On October 28, an off-duty state trooper assigned to Johnston County contacted the Sheriff’s Office after spotting a suspicious vehicle. Deputies responded and approached the car to investigate.

Inside the vehicle, authorities reportedly found Jaylen Troy Davenport, 22, of Raleigh, with a 14-year-old juvenile female. Following the investigation, Davenport was taken into custody and charged with felony taking indecent liberties with a child.

Davenport was booked into the Johnston County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond.

No additional information was released to protect the identity of the minor.
