WakeMed NICU Babies Celebrate First Fourth Of July

RALEIGH, N.C. — Some of the smallest patients at WakeMed are already getting into the Independence Day spirit.

As Americans prepare to celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday this Fourth of July, several newborns receiving care in WakeMed’s Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) marked the holiday with patriotic-themed outfits and photo opportunities commemorating their very first Independence Day.

For the families of these newborns, this year’s holiday carries special meaning as they celebrate not only America’s birthday but also the arrival of their newest family members.

The babies, who are receiving specialized care in WakeMed’s NICU, represent new beginnings and the promise of many milestones still to come. Hospital staff helped create the festive keepsake photos as a way to bring smiles to families spending the holiday in the hospital.
