Employee Injured In UTV Accident At Tractor Supply

SELMA, N.C. — A Tractor Supply employee was seriously injured Saturday morning when a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) overturned behind the store, according to Selma Police.

The accident happened around 9 a.m. behind Tractor Supply, 1401 S. Pollock Street.

Selma Police Chief Justin Vause said officers arrived to find an adult female suffering from injuries next to the overturned UTV.

Johnston County EMS transported the woman to WakeMed with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicates a male Tractor Supply employee was operating the UTV while the female employee was riding as a passenger. The two were reportedly moving the utility vehicle in the parking lot when the driver engaged in what Chief Vause described as “horseplay.”

According to police, the driver took the UTV behind the business and operated it carelessly, causing it to overturn.

The male employee was cited for reckless driving.

The names of those involved have not been released as the investigation continues.

Selma Fire also responded to assist at the scene.

    • I believe parking lots open to the public are considered public roads in this type of case. A word of warning.

        • I wish that was correct but it isn’t. G.S. 20-4.01(32) defines “Public Vehicular Areas” basically as private roadways and parking areas of businesses open to the public. Many (not all) traffic laws specifically apply in these areas including DWI, open container, reckless driving, too fast for conditions, lights, window tint, failure to signal, etc. etc.

      • Yes GenEcks, you are correct. Also, for everyone reading, just in case you do not know, if you are in a vehicle in a parking lot, moving in forward motion without your seat belt fastened, you can indeed receive a seat belt citation. We all know those are not cheap.

  1. It’s bad this happened and hope the female is ok! Now, aside from a parking lot, I’m sure it wasn’t intentional. And who said bad management 🤷‍♂️
Do they write tickets at Busco Beach? Do they even care about all the 4 wheelers and dirt bikes in the streets not following the streetable atv laws?
Seems like now Tractor supply will use that to not pay the hospital bill because there is someone else to blame? Just wondering?
Moral of the story is kids will be kids! Treat it as such!

  2. Run one all American hotdog vendor off your property and suddenly the wheels start to fall off, metaphorically speaking of course.
