Walmart Employee Charged With Felony Larceny Over $40 In Merchandise

JOHNSTON COUNTY – A Walmart employee has been charged with felony larceny after she allegedly pushed a shopping cart containing unpaid merchandise out of the store while working.

Layla Nikole Giles, 21, of Garner was arrested Aug. 11 by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and charged with felonious larceny by an employee.

The incident occurred at the Walmart on Veterans Parkway.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, store loss prevention officials contacted deputies after Giles was allegedly captured on surveillance video earlier this month pushing a shopping cart out of the store.

Authorities said the cart contained two packages of Brawny paper towels and a table lamp. The merchandise was valued at $40.36.

The items were recovered and returned to Walmart.

Giles was given a $5,000 secured bond.
