A teenager wanted on a fugitive warrant in Virginia was arrested during a traffic stop Sunday morning near Smithfield. A Johnston County deputy was on patrol on US 70 Business around 1:00am when he spotted a car traveling in excess of 80 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone.
The deputy conducted a traffic stop and located cocaine and open beer cans inside the vehicle.
The driver allegedly gave the officer a fictitious name and date of birth. Eventually, officers determined the man was 18 year-old Pedro Hernandez Amaya who had most recently been staying on Main Street in Wilson’s Mills. Amaya was wanted on a fugitive warrant in Virginia. He was also charged with driving while impaired and felony possession of cocaine.
He was also detained for US immigrant and customs officials.
